Visa and Immigration to Thailand
Recent Experience
Just went through Thai immigration! Here's the current state of affairs:
- They only asked for passport, stamped it, sent us through.
- However they do random checks of Visa Exemption travellers for additional proof, so make sure you've got the additional documents described below.
- Very fast and easy process took like five minutes.
This has been confirmed by multiple people, so be prepared but don't stress. It's pretty chill.
Visa Exemption
Everyone who's completed the form should qualify for the Thailand Visa Exemption Scheme, meaning you can all stay for 60 days without a visa. If you haven't completed the form, shame on you, consult the below list instead.
Visa Exemption Required Documents
Please have on hand:
- Passport: with 6 months validity
- Proof of onward travel: a return ticket, or travel to a non-neighboring country
- Proof of funds: minimum 10,000THB. This can be cash or bank statement.
- Proof of accommodation: download this below.
Entry Fees and Recommendations
There may or may not be a 300THB entry fee to enter Thailand; news sources are contradictory. I'd recommend bringing at least 2,000THB cash (~$70SGD) for certainty and spending money.
Sources
Thailand's immigration web presence is somewhat limited, so here's the sources I found that gave me confidence:
Arrival in Thailand
Chiang Mai is an international airport, allowing you to complete immigration there if it's your first point of entry. Otherwise, you must go through immigration at the first Thai airport you land in.
